Melomane has  repayed Julie's and James faith and the patience of connections with a last stride victory in the HRC Function Maiden Plate over 1400 meters at Hamilton.

Jumping well from barrier 12 he drifted to the back of the field. Billy Eagan gave him a great ride saving ground coming through the field gradually from the 600 meter mark. On the turn he hooked out three wide to be in a challenging position chasing down the favorite Disco Ben trained by Darren Weir who had kicked three lengths in front to snatch victory in the last stride by a half head, with a further two lengths back to Synchronicity in third in a good time of 1:24.78.

Although it took 23 starts to break his maiden, his next win shouldn't take as long. This preparation since the move to Ballarat he has had four starts for a win and two seconds and $16,350 in prizemoney. In total Melomane has had 23 starts for a win, three seconds and four thirds and $29,910.

Melomane will have his next start either at Werribee or Horsham over 1400 meters.
