Julie Scotts first winner at her home track of Ballarat since moving from Bairnsdale about 18 months ago at only her second runner there with stable favourite Benambra at the odds of 100/1.

Benambra jumped only fair but pushed on from the outside to the lead by Dean Holland. He straightened up with a narrow lead under hard riding looked under siege but kept kicking to win drawing away in the end by 1 3/4 lengths. Nalcrest Lady finished second and Robert de Hero in third. Benambra ran the 1400 meters in 1:26.02.

It was Benambra 11th win for the nine year old. He has consistently won races every preparation for the stable. It is justice to Julie's and James training methods as he has never had any soundness issues.
